It was crazy. Absolutely crazy. After many years in the corporate world, I was giving it all up to manage on inn on Martha’s Vineyard. I had put my house on the market and was getting a steady stream of prospective buyers.

One of them was a young, single woman who came through with her realtor. "Why are you selling?" she asked.

"I’m moving to Martha’s Vineyard," I replied.

"Oh!" squealed the realtor. "Martha's Vineyard is my husband's and my favorite vacation spot. What are you going to do there?"

"Manage an inn," I said.

"Really?," said the realtor. "Which one?"

I told her and her gasp was audible. "That's our favorite place to stay!"

"Really?" Now it was my turn to be stunned.

I had just returned from a weekend of "auditioning" for the role and stayed in room #23, one of their many beautifully appointed rooms filled with antiques and luxurious comforts.

The realtor went on. "My husband and I always ask for the same room. Room #23."

That was my sign that this wasn't so crazy after all.
