My Dad passed away several years ago in a very tragic accident that I will always feel partially responsible for. A lack of clear thinking, or negligence, during a family outing caused my Dad to have a massive heart attack and die instantly.

I’d been having a very difficult time after losing my job and not having a backup plan in place. When a friend invited me to Ft. Myers, Florida to unwind and de-stress for a few days. I couldn’t afford the airplane ticket so he, being a dear friend paid for it.

On the last day as we were packing up to leave, the owner of the home came by the house and introduced us to his handyman, Randy. He mentioned that Randy was originally from Wisconsin as am I.

We exchanged hello’s and for some unknown reason, I struck up a conversation with Randy. I asked him if he lived in Wisconsin and Florida and he said he hadn’t lived in Wisconsin since 1980. I kept talking to him, asking where he lived in Wisconsin. He was vague and said it was just a small town but that he goes back to visit often. I kept peppering this man with questions even though I’d never laid eyes on him in my life.

I continued to ask what town, what neighborhood, what street, until what I consider a miracle…I narrowed it down and found out he had been friends with my Dad! When he said that he actually knew my Dad, I jumped off my chair and ran up to this strange man and just started hugging him! I couldn’t believe any of this. What are the odds of that? I had never been to Ft. Myers in my life. I’d never met this man in my life, yet I was just introduced to a complete stranger that knew my wonderful father!
