Same School, Same Class (5.25.2011)

Not long after we arrived in Australia I enrolled my kids in a small Christian private school with around 150 students. My young kids were still FEELING INSECURE after emigrating from England and leaving their friends behind. The school year started on 27 January, the day after Australia Day. On Australia Day we, along with 500,000 others, packed a picnic and in the afternoon we headed off to South Perth to watch the fireworks display that night. A couple was sitting NEXT TO US with their two young children and we got chatting. The kids eventually went off playing together. They lived about 18 km away from us, but imagine our delight when we found that their children were starting at a new school the next day too; not just any school, THE SAME ONE AS MY CHILDREN...and they would be in the SAME CLASSES! All four would see a familiar face in their class on their first day at their new school! It made the transition so much easier for my kids. Michelle |
