My Mother, being of Spanish decent, always had something for anyone visiting her home. Always a small gift to take home. Sometimes it was something she shopped for, and other times it was food she'd prepared. But every visitor always left with something.
Mom had cancer and we knew her time with the Lord was near. Hospice was at her house. We had Mom in a hospital bed in the family room with the french doors opened to the back yard. Most of Mom's family had traveled in for their good byes. Myself, the Hospice nurse and my Aunt were in the house tending to Mom. All the men were a few steps away in the back yard talking. My cousin was wandering the back yard and suddenly looked up to the sky and said, "check that out."
All the men stood up and looked. The women went outside to see what was going on. We all stood and looked up to where my cousin was staring. It was then that we all saw it. The most beautiful and vibrant end to end double arc rainbow that any of us have ever seen. Keep in mind that the date was July 30th. There had been no rain in California. For those of you who don't know this, California does not get end to end rainbows.
Mostly just small fragments. And never a double arc rainbow.
As we all stood there and stared at the rainbow, we looked over at my Mom, who was just a few hours from death, and realized that this was her last gift to us. Mom passed away about 5 hours later.
To this day I cannot see a rainbow without knowing that my precious Mother has something to do with it. A God wink? Absolutely.
