Recently, my grandson and his basketball team had a game in a round robin tournament. Once the game was over he, his mom, myself and my parents went out for supper. Everything was fine, he was upbeat about the game, talking about usual boy stuff and looking forward to the next game to be held several days later. We ordered our meal and went about visiting, playing and having a good time.

All of a sudden Ethan, my grandson, got eerily quiet, put his head in his hand and said he felt very sick at his stomach. From that moment on, didn't seem right. He did not eat a bite of his meal and continued his quietness.

A little while later, just as we were finishing up our meal a state trooper sped by the window at a extremely high rate of speed with full siren and lights. Being from a small community, it is automatic for us to say a quick prayer knowing there is a chance the situation could be someone we know.

Anyway, my daughter called me early the next morning and told me that my grandson's best buddy had been killed the night before in a terrible car accident. My daughter and I both realize that my grandson felt that moment.

The boys had just played basketball together an hour and half earlier, my grandson was taking him on an upcoming birthday trip to an NBA basketball game and were best buddies in school and sports.

I know he is really young and doesn't coherently understand everything about death and afterlife but I believe he gets it about his buddy.

Now, we are praying that he has strength to get through the next months of healing and understanding.
