Recently, we hired a new hostess at the restaurant where I work. She is a regular customer and someone I have gotten to know very well over the past few years, thus offering her the job when we needed a new hostess. I normally work the Friday night shift as hostess, from 3-10pm, and this shift I would be giving up to Justine when she was trained and ready to work.
On the first Friday that she started, I asked her if she wanted me to come in and offer any help if necessary, as it was her first night, and a busy one at that. She said yes, that she'd be more comfortable with me there, and so I worked with her that night. At the end of the week my boss paid me for the extra hours I had put in that Friday night.
The next day, I found out that my boss wasn't planning on paying Justine for that Friday evening, because she didn't want to pay two people, I knew this was wrong, and I decided I would give Justine MY pay for the night since it was technically her night to work and I was only there to help. I went home, and became a little stressed about taking the $70 back out of my bank account, as I had bills to pay. I left the money in the payroll folder at work with Justine's name on it, not letting her know it was my pay becuase I knew she would never accept it had she known.
The following day, I was worried about my bills, and came home to find in the mail a check for $71; a motor vehicle reimbursement which I had no idea I was going to receive.
I'm proud to say I did the right thing, and I believe God winked at me because of it :)
