My close friend Michelle passed away suddenly on March 3. We had known and loved each other for 28 years. A mom of an 11 year old daughter, she had a special connection with my two boys ages 11 and 9.

We were informed at 7 pm that night by her brother-in-law, over the phone. Earlier on that Wednesday, at about 4:30 in the afternoon,, my younger son rushed up to me with a box of brownie mix in his hand. He begged to make the brownies. He said, " I just need some brownies right now". I was in the middle of fixing a computer problem and told him that if dad would supervise (dad was already in the kitchen) then he could make the brownies. And so he did.

We later found out that Michelle died, at about 4:30 pm and her nickname was "Brownie". She loved them. And us.

Later that evening, when we were all mourning Michelle, my sons commented on how they didn't want to eat brownies ever again. I told them we would indeed, and the treat would be even more special now. What are the chances? I know with all my heart that this was a Godwink.
