On June 3, 1994 while working as a deputy in Cincinnati, I pulled up behind a young man who was putting gas into his empty tank on the entrance ramp to northbound I-71. While I was blocking traffic I looked to my left and against the concrete median I noticed a wallet on the ground.

I exited my cruiser and ran across two lanes to get it. Upon returning to my vehicle, I glanced at the drivers license and picture and noticed the owner lived in Silverton, which was just a few miles away.

I spent the next few hours responding to routine calls and forgot about the wallet on my front seat. An hour and a half later, I was driving through a shopping center parking lot and noticed an occupied car in a handicapped parking space with no handicapped placard.

The driver had her head against the steering wheel and as she looked up, I made eye contact with her. She nervously started her car and began moving to another space. I continued around the shopping center when suddenly I remembered the wallet. I looked again at the picture and noticed it resembled the lady I just saw who was illegally parked.

I drove back around and ran her license plate. Lo and behold it was her. I walked up to her car and she immediately explained that she was waiting for her son . When I told her that I had something of hers, she looked confused. I then told her that I had her wallet.

She jumped from her car yelling "Praise Jesus...Praise Jesus...Praise Jesus" . She explained that as I pulled up, she had just finished praying that her wallet would be found and then raised her head from the steering wheel and made eye contact with me.

This store was approximately two miles from where I found the wallet. I would love to claim that it was because I was such an observant police officer and my instincts were the reason for this...but I know this was a "Wink from God".
